I was inspired by the famous “Castle Orange” colour of the historic fortress town of Bourtange when creating this medieval linen skirt. Throughout Bourtange, the warm rustic orange tone can be seen on the great wooden gate doors, the bridges and railings, the waterside walkways, docks, and the small guard posts that protect the fortress.
I love this oranje color. In the Netherlands we call it most of the time BRIQUE, but it has many more names:
brick orange,
burnt orange,
terracotta,
oxblood orange,
weathered stone red.
Here you can see the characteristic orange-painted woodwork of Bourtange that inspired this design:
The Skirt:
Made from beautiful stonewashed linen in a warm brick/rust tone with a contrasting brown linen hem, this skirt has a timeless medieval character while remaining wonderfully comfortable for everyday wear or costume use. A delicate lace trim finishes the lower border for an authentic rustic touch.
The fabric is soft, breathable, and has that relaxed natural drape only genuine linen can offer. Ideal for medieval fairs, LARP, reenactment events, fantasy costumes, cottagecore styling, or historical-inspired wardrobes.
This skirt is entirely handmade and only available as a single unique piece.
