Why I Love Creating Marie Antoinette-Inspired Costumes

My love for Marie Antoinette Style

My creative live is a dance between two very different worlds.

On one hand, I am deeply rooted in the tactile honesty of medieval craftsmanship. I love the feeling of sturdy canvas, the warmth of heavy wool, and the timeless drape of linen. There is a profound satisfaction in working with these raw, enduring materials—it is craftsmanship in its most grounded form.

But every so often, the "maker’s itch" returns, demanding something entirely different. The minimalist in me steps aside to make room for a whisper of 18th-century decadence. Suddenly, it’s time for "more is more."

And the different colors: soft, pink, Salmon, soft yellow, soft white, soft, soft and always very childisch and very sweet, beautiful , etc. etc. Entirely different as everyday life in which I run away from these colors!

Sewing as the devil is in the detail:

I find myself drawn to the whimsical, intricate world of Marie Antoinette. It is a world of delicate silks, endless layers of lace, shimmering gold, and beads that catch the light. It requires sewing with millimeter precision—a meditative, breathless process where every stitch is a tribute to the aesthetics of a bygone era.

Life is a fairytale? Absolutley not!

I think part of me still wants to believe in fairy tales. I am enchanted by the idea of perfect, manicured gardens with boxwood and roses, and vast, pristine palaces where beauty knows no bounds. Of course, I am well aware that Marie Antoinette’s life was far from a fairy tale, and the history surrounding the French Revolution is anything but sugar-coated.

I choose to focus on the artistry, the sheer ambition of the costumes, and the joy of creating something that feels like a dream realized.

My work is a balance: the strength of the medieval and the dream-like splendor of the Rococo.

Whether I am working with rough-hewn fibers or cascading silk, my goal remains the same: to create something that is not just a garment, but a story—meticulously crafted, with all the bells and whistles, just for the love of the making.

Yeah really... I made it all, 100% for sure!

And the big dresses:
