My name is Marga van der Vet, the maker behind Historique Couture.
People often ask me why I make historical clothing. The answer is simple: I love it.
For me, sewing is much more than making a dress. Every project is a journey into history. I enjoy studying old photographs, paintings, museum collections and books to understand how people dressed in the past. Then I bring those ideas back to life with my own hands.
The Victorian period has always fascinated me. I love the elegant skirts, fitted bodices, beautiful hats, fine lace and rich fabrics. Every detail tells a story.
At the moment I am reading a wonderful book about the 'Seven Habsburg Sisters'. Books like these inspire me every day and often give me ideas for new costumes and accessories.
My Atelier
I work from my own atelier in the Netherlands, where every piece is handmade by me. I don't have a factory or a team of people. When you send me a message, you are talking directly to the person who designs and makes your costume.
I enjoy taking my time. Good craftsmanship cannot be rushed. Every dress, bonnet, corset or accessory receives the same care and attention that I would want if I were the customer.
Some of my designs are based closely on original Victorian garments. Others are inspired by history with my own creative touch. I love combining beautiful fabrics, lace, ribbons and trims to create something unique while keeping the feeling of the Victorian era.
My customers come from all over the world. Some wear my creations for historical events, living history, theatre or reenactment. Others simply love historical fashion as much as I do. Whatever your reason, I hope my work brings you a little closer to the beauty of the past.
In a world of fast fashion and mass production, I believe handmade clothing has become something special. Every stitch is made by hand, with patience, experience and love for the craft.
Thank you for visiting Historique Couture. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it.
Love,
